NLNAC Annual Report

All NLNAC-accredited programs are required to submit a completed Annual Report by November 16, 2012. Access information has been sent to all nurse administrators of NLNAC-accredited programs. If you have not received this communication, or require any assistance, please contact Zaid Toukan at ztoukan@nlnac.org. To submit your Annual Report, go to www.nlnac.org/annrep. Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to receiving your Report.

A Workshop for New Nurse Administrators

We are excited to offer a new workshop entitled,
Effectively Leading an NLNAC-Accredited Program: A Workshop for the New Nurse Administrator. The Workshop will provide information related to accreditation policies and processes. Attendees will be oriented to the responsibilities of the nurse leader in maintaining compliance with the Accreditation Standards and provide helpful direction related to reporting and maintenance of documentation.
The response to the Workshop has been very positive, and the inaugural Workshop, scheduled for January 18, 2013, has already filled to capacity. We are finalizing details for the next Workshop in June 2013, and online registration will open shortly. Visit our website at www.nlnac.org for the latest information on upcoming meetings, forums, and workshops.

Sharon J. Tanner, EdD, MSN, RN

Fall Greetings! As the year draws to a close, we have several exciting updates to share. Earlier this month, the Fall 2012 Self-Study Forum was held in Orlando. More than 900 nurse educators and administrators participated in Self-Study Forums in 2012. Twenty-five program evaluators will be participating in an orientation session for new team chairs in early December, and selections are currently being made for new program evaluators to participate in the 2013 PE Forum scheduled for February. Also, for the first time, a workshop designed for new nurse administrators will be presented in January 2013. Watch Bridges and the website for updates on NLNAC forums and workshops.

The second period of public review for the draft of the 2013 Standards and Criteria recently ended with hundreds of thoughtful and helpful comments being submitted for consideration. The Board of Commissioners will review the comments and approve the final version of the Standards and Criteria at its next Board meeting, and the 2013 Standards will become effective January 1st. Thanks to all who reviewed and submitted comments.

The NLNAC staff support the work of over 500 program evaluators who take time out of their busy schedules to participate in onsite visits and other accreditation activities. Our dedicated site visitors conducted over 200 onsite reviews in 2012, 50 of which were for initial accreditation. The work of this agency would simply not be possible without this cadre of hard-working volunteers, and I acknowledge and thank all of our evaluators for their service.
As the holidays approach, we wish you well. See you in 2013!
