Marilyn K. Smidt, MSN, RN
Biographical Sketch


Marilyn K. Smidt earned her BSN degree from Michigan State University and her MSN from Wayne State University. She has been employed in nursing education for most of her career beginning in 1972. She has held faculty appointments in diploma nursing schools, baccalaureate programs and practical and associate degree programs in community colleges in Iowa, Indiana and Michigan. Her positions have included nursing faculty, course leader and coordinator, assistant dean and program director. She has been the recipient of various honors and awards.

Her professional memberships include: National League for Nursing; Sigma Theta Tau International, Kappa Epsilon Chapter-at-Large; National Organization for Associate Degree Nursing; and Michigan Council of Nurse Education Administrators.

She has served as an NLNAC program evaluator since 1994, conducting approximately two site visits per year since that time. She served on the Evaluation Review Panel both as a panel member and more recently as chairperson. Ms. Smidt was elected to the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission in 2002 and again in 2005. She has served as a curriculum consultant for numerous nursing programs across the country. She has also served in the past on the NLN Bylaws Committee and the Editorial Review Committee.

Ms. Smidt has served on numerous committees of state, regional and national organizations. She holds memberships and offices on a variety of local boards organizations. She has made many presentations at local and state meetings.
